We are excited to announce that a new homework club is starting in Heidelberg West, with online applications now open for volunteer tutors to join the program.
Himilo Community Connect’s homework club provides a place for volunteer tutors and students to share in improving career and community aspirations.
When: Volunteer one evening a week (from 1.5 to 3 hours) Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Starts during August 2017, apply now.
What: Work with students to improve study skills, planning, specific homework tasks and to support them in their commitment to education.
Who: Could be you! Requirements include a valid Working With Children Check and we provide training on tutoring skills, child safety and cultural learning. E-focus Child Safe Policy applies.
Students will mostly be from the Somali community but the program is open to all primary and secondary students.
Where: Shop 48, The Harmony Centre, Bell St Mall, Heidelberg.
Why: This is a fantastic opportunity to volunteer your skills within our local community, support students and improve education outcomes. Tutors’ feedback includes: “I get as much out of the program as the children do, I feel that I am helping the children prepare for their future learning.” (CMY homework tutor).
How: Register your interest through this Application Form or contact us to discuss options.
Please submit your form by 30th July to be considered for the first program, with interviews and training to follow.
Student Registration: Come into Shop 48 to complete a form to register primary or secondary students for this program.
